Small business owner, Iraqi veteran and Woodruff resident Glenn Lindman was elected chairman of the Spartanburg County Democratic Party during the party's convention at Carver Junior High School on Saturday, March 15.

Lindman was chosen to replace Liz Patterson who has served as the Democratic Party Chair the past four years.

In his remarks to the more than 200 gathered in the Carver gym Lindman noted, “I’m no Liz Patterson,” acknowledging he has big shoes to fill.

He also hopes by putting more responsibility on other Democrats they’ll realize they are the party and the Democratic Party in Spartanburg will only go as far as they take it. “I’m a big organizational guy, that’s where my style is different from Liz.”

A reporter asked him if he could match Spartanburg County Republican Party Chairman Rick Beltram’s vociferous style. Lindman noted he was an infantry sergeant and if need be he could, but he said that’s not his style.

He decried the “partisan politics and sound bite hateful rhetoric of the Sean Hannity’s, the Rush Limbaugh’s, I just don’t like that.” He wants to get away from the “politics of personal animosity.”

Lindman believes the Democratic candidates that are stepping up locally will have a good chance to win this year.

He noted more than 530,000 Democratic voters came out to vote in the South Carolina Presidential Democratic Primary and said, “If we had those numbers two years ago, we would have swept the state.

He also added that his biggest job right now is trying to keep the momentum going that was shown in the Presidential Primary.
